Economic Relations Division of the Ministry of Finance with support from its ‘’Support to Sustainable Graduation Project (SSGP)” organized a countrywide celebration on 11 January 2020 on the eve of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The history of Bangladesh’s independence is invariably tied with the life and philosophy of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Almost 50 years ago, he liberated this country from the shackles of oppression, taught the Bengali nation the true meaning of freedom and envisioned for them a bright prosperous future.

Year 2020 marks the birth centenary of that great and visionary leader. So, to commemorate this momentous occasion, Economic Relation Division of the Ministry of Finance organized a daylong countrywide celebration on 11 January 2020 involving people from all walks of society.

A range of events were organized in every single upazilla of the country along with a grand celebration at Dhaka’s Hatirjheel. The daylong celebration ended with simultaneous fireworks in all upazillas of the country.

The main objective of this mega celebration was to spread the message and philosophy of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and to celebrate his visions to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh.

Countrywide Celebration:

The daylong countrywide celebration consisted of the following segments:

  1. Nationwide Rally
  2. Photo Exhibition on ‘Life and Works of Bangabandhu’
  3. Discussion Session on ‘The Development Philosophy of Bangabandhu’
  4. Art Competition for Children on ‘Bangabandhu and Bangladesh’
  5. Cultural Program by Local Artists
  6. Countrywide Live LED Screening of the Grand Celebration at Hatirjheel

Grand Celebration at Hatirjheel

To top off the countrywide events, a grand celebration was organized on the evening of that same day at Hatirjheel Amphitheater of Dhaka. Honorable Finance Minister Mr. A H M Mustafa Kamal, FCA, MP graced the occasion as chief guest. ERD Secretary Mr. Monowar Ahmed delivered the opening remarks.

The event featured colorful musical performances as well as audio visual presentations celebrating Bangabandhu’s vision as well as the recent development progress of Bangladesh to realize his vision. Eminent artists from home and abroad performed at the gala evening that was enjoyed by thousands of spectators at Hatirjheel Amphitheater.

The program was broadcasted live on a number of television channels while it was also aired on social media platforms. Millions of People were able to watch the program through live LED screening at all upazillas.

Countrywide Fireworks

The daylong celebration ended with glittering fireworks at all upazillas of the country. The night sky of Bangladesh was illuminated with sparkling fireworks to immortalize the vision of the Father of the Nation and to celebrate the country’s remarkable progress in realizing that vision.
