A two-day long training program on ‘Reliable Data Exposure Relevant to Development Synergy’ was organized by the Sustainable Graduation Project of ERD on 15 and 16 March 2020.

Around 25 high officials from the relevant miniseries and government agencies including Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), ERD, Planning Division as well as Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) participated in the training program.

Bangladesh met all the criteria for graduating from the LDC status back in 2018. Meanwhile, it is expected that the country would meet all those criteria again during the next triennial review in 2021. In such case, it would formally graduate from the LDC status in 2024.

In this context, the training program was organized to sensitize the government officials about the graduation related data and statistics with a view to maintain a greater synergy between national and international data.

Secretary of the Economic Relations Division Ms. Fatima Yasmin attended the closing session of the training program as Chief Guest and handed over the certificates to the participants.

Wing Chief of the Development Effectiveness Wing of ERD and Project Director of SSGP Mr. Farid Aziz was present as special guest.

Former ERD Secretary and Project Manager of SSGP Mr. Monowar Ahmed chaired the session.

Speaking on the occasion, ERD Secretary Ms. Fatima Yasmin observed that the graduation of a country depends on some specific criteria that encompass wide-ranging socioeconomic indicators.

“Therefore, it is vital to maintain a synergy between the government statistics and the statistics of the United Nations for timely and smooth graduation of Bangladesh”, she said.

Project Manager of SSGP Mr. Monowar Ahmed said that enhancing the capacity of the local institutions are necessary for ensuring a smooth and sustainable transition of the country after graduation.

Project Director of SSGP Mr. Farid Aziz termed the training program as a timely and vital initiative.
